Role Description
The job holder is responsible for all aspects of managing and converting sales opportunities within the main contractor, private developer, commercial and affordable housing sectors, in line with the company’s business plan and sales strategy.
The role necessitates the development of close working relationships with long term customers so as to maximise the sales and profit potential, whilst at the same time promoting the company in a positive manner.
Within this role there is a requirement to visit customers to discuss and understand their business, creating a platform where Kirkwood Timber Frame can become integral to that business generating successful and repeat business.
Strong team working relationships are needed across all internal departments, particularly with the Estimating, Technical and Construction teams.
Working closely with the Head of Sales, the job holder will be expected to contribute to all promotional and marketing proposals and assist in solving monetary and product problems where appropriate.
The job holder will also require to be aware of market trends and competitor activity in their targeted sectors, regularly reporting to Head of Sales and Managing Director, providing forecasts that are current and meaningful.
Role Purpose
Procurement of profitable business for the company as per the agreed business plan and sales strategy.
Key responsibilities:
Customer & Partnership Development
- Build, develop and maintain strong long-term relationships with key customers, suppliers and strategic partners.
- Establish trusted partnerships that drive repeat business, specification influence, and sustainable growth.
- Develop and maintain an active, prioritised database of customers and prospects.
- Create and manage a defined target list, establishing clear sales priorities.
Sales Pipeline & Opportunity Management
- Appraise incoming enquiries, identifying competitors and co-tender activity.
- Identify specification variations and additional scope to maximise margin opportunities.
- Maintain full awareness of tender submissions and commercial positioning.
- Monitor customer trading performance and credit risk.
CRM, Activity Planning & Time Management
- Ensure all call and visit activity is accurately logged within the CRM.
- Keep records visible, current, and accessible to management.
- Structure and manage external activity to maximise productive selling time.
Customer Experience, Marketing & Market Presence
- Deliver consistently excellent customer care and account management.
- Support the development and delivery of customer promotions and marketing activity.
- Represent Kirkwood timber Frame at sales meetings, exhibitions, and industry events.
- Maintain awareness of competitor activity, pricing, and market positioning.
Internal Collaboration & Commercial Support
- Work closely with Credit Control and Commercial team to resolve payment and contractual issues.
- Support internal teams to ensure smooth project delivery and customer satisfaction.
Reporting & Performance Management
- Provide accurate, timely, and insightful monthly reports to the Head of Sales. Track performance against targets, pipeline health, and market opportunities.
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety requirements, always adhere to Quality Management Systems and company procedures.
Performance Measures:
- Achievement / improvement of invoiced sales targets and margins set in business plan.
- Conversion of opportunities into invoiced sales.
- Customer retention and repeat business.
- Trade up-selling for additional margin growth.
- Integration into customer business plans.
- Intelligence gathering on pricing and competitor activity.
