We are delighted that our Factory Operations Manager, Alan Little, has been nominated for an award at the upcoming 2025 Trades Awards.

Alan has been selected as a finalist in the Health, Safety, and Wellbeing category, recognising his outstanding contribution towards health and safety and in fostering a safe and supportive work environment.

He was put forward by health, safety, environmental and training consultancy, Safety Scotland - and is one of four nominees from whom a winner will be announced at the awards ceremony in November.

Alan Little, pictured above (left) with Malcolm Thomson, said of his nomination: "I was surprised and delighted to have been nominated for this award, and I'd like to thank John Owens, at safety Scotland, for putting my name forward.

“I genuinely feel like I am just doing what I should be doing! However, I suppose the grounding and knowledge I was able to obtain through completing my NEBOSH General Certificate - a globally recognised HSE qualification - has meant that some of the practices we have implemented have impressed John and the Safety Scotland team.

“It is important to always be looking to improve and I feel that reminding people - and encouraging the whole team to think about health and safety - creates a working environment where everyone is aware of potential hazards and is working collectively to minimise risk.”

In nominating Alan, John Owens, Safety Advisor with Safety Scotland, stated: "Alan has a deep understanding of health and safety legislation and promotes a strong safety culture. This is achieved through leading by example - wearing appropriate PPE, following safe working procedures and encouraging open communication with all team members.

"He conducts regular toolbox talks, safety briefings and training sessions, to keep safety at the forefront of the minds of all team members and he empowers staff to take ownership of safety in the workplace. Alan also carries out thorough assessments for all machinery, tools, and processes, identifying potential hazards and implementing effective control measures. He is meticulous in eliminating or mitigating risks.

"Routine inspections and audits are conducted to ensure ongoing compliance and identify areas for improvement and collaboration is central to Alan’s approach. He works closely with health and safety advisor’s and senior leadership to align safety goals with broader operational objectives. He also engages with external auditors and inspectors, demonstrating transparency and a commitment to continuous improvement.

"Alan’s dedication not only protects the wellbeing of the team but also contributes to the overall efficiency and reputation of the business."

Our Business Development Manager, Barbara Massie, added: "Alan is a fantastic factory manager and his diligence and commitment in all areas of his role - especially in ensuring the safety, health and wellbeing of our team - is to be applauded. It is great to see an external body recognise his hard work and put Alan forward for this award, recognising his achievements alongside other clearly talented and dedicated industry professionals. Well done Alan!"
